Microsoft is planning to buy video game giant Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion, but both the US Federal Trade Commission and the British Competition and Markets Authority are skeptical of the deal and could block it for legal reasons.
The European Commission has officially rejected the deal and sent Microsoft a "Statement of Objections". Microsoft will likely have to make concessions to gain the EU's approval. The British Competition and Markets Authority is also expected to reject the deal.
The FTC filed its lawsuit to block the deal earlier than expected in December, in order to avoid a compromise with European regulators. Microsoft has asked Sony to help it defend against the FTC's lawsuit.
Google and Nvidia have expressed concerns about the deal and its impact on competition. Microsoft says it hopes to bring its pro-union stance to Activision Blizzard.
