Microsoft's Cloud Gaming - Coming to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate in 2021

Like other providers, mega-corporation Microsoft decided last year to develop its own cloud gaming system. This is to be linked on the one hand to the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, on the other hand it will also be compatible with products from the competition, such as iOS devices.

But what exactly is meant by the much-vaunted cloud gaming?

Cloud gaming is intended to enable players with low-performance computers and mobile devices to enjoy the latest video games smoothly and with high graphics settings. For this, the user pays a monthly fee to the provider, to which this is credited with the provider's internal server. With its help, the customer can simply and easily retrieve the desired games in the web browser or in an offered app. Usually the full game library is already included in the cost, so that you don't have to spend any money on your own video games.

Now Microsoft also wants to build on this cloud gaming system and at the same time promote the brand new, in-house consoles Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. For this, the system will be based on the Xbox Game Pass, which already has a huge game library. The user should therefore be able to enjoy the titles available in the Xbox Game Pass soon also on Windows PCs and on iOS devices. The library will be available on Windows computers via the Xbox app and in the web browser. On iOS devices, however, gaming will only be possible via the web browser, as Apple simply and plainly does not allow apps with such a huge range of functions. For a long time, the company resisted Microsoft's plans to also release its cloud gaming on iOS devices, but now a compromise has been found in the form of gaming via the web browser.

Microsoft also announced that the cloud gaming system will only be available in beta version at first, as this is to be improved in parallel and constantly. However, the first test results of cloud gaming from Bill Gates' company are extremely satisfactory: hardly any errors or problems are reported. Games are also said to be experienced smoothly and with high graphic settings, although server problems are probably inevitable in long-term practice tests. Nevertheless, future users can look forward to great gaming experiences for little money that also make gaming possible on the go.
This is to be released on the market as early as spring 2021, but as already indicated, initially in beta version. In fact, the service has been available for Android devices since September 2020.

If you are now wondering whether your technical device must meet certain minimum requirements in the system, then we can reassure you. Because believe it or not: only Android 6.0 or higher as well as at least Bluetooth 4.0 and a constant internet connection of more than 7 Mbit/s are mandatory in order to use Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Of course, real gaming is only fun with a controller, because games like Destiny 2: Beyond Light can only be enjoyed uncomfortably with touch control. Microsoft also recommends the Xbox Wireless Controller, which is connected via Bluetooth or a USB cable.
