How's the hunt going? Welcome to our next edition of the Return to World Community blog! In this week's post, we'll delve into a series of first experiences that new hunters in Monster Hunter: World will encounter - your first hunting ground, crafting your first armor and weapon, and of course, facing off against your first big monster!

Hunting Grounds - The Ancient Forest
Welcome to the Ancient Forest, a lush, foliage-filled area that is as dense as it is tall and teeming with life - from endemic creatures and small monsters like the Jagras to a variety of powerful larger monsters lurking in the underbrush and treetops under the watchful eye of the King of the Skies...
Once you leave your camp, you will arrive at the shore of the Ancient Forest. From here, you have the option to continue along the coast or venture into the surrounding forest or even the giant tree. Speaking of exploring and collecting items: it's definitely worth picking up everything you find, but keep an eye out for herbs, honey, bone piles, and ore deposits in particular. They are all helpful for crafting and upgrading your equipment.
The Ancient Forest has a total of four camps that you can use, including your starting camp. To use the other three, you first need to find the suitable locations and then rebuild them.
Your first big monster - the Great Jagras
You've collected materials, slain small monsters, and settled into the Ancient Forest, but now it's time for your first big test as a hunter: hunting the Great Jagras!
For those of you who are new to Monster Hunter: World or still completing this urgent quest, here are a few suggestions from us to help you with your goal!
Hunting Preparation
Equipment
Your starting leather armor may fit well, but it doesn't offer much protection against damage! Visit the blacksmith in Astera and consider crafting a bone armor and possibly upgrading your weapon.
Items
No matter how skilled you are, there's a good chance the Great Jagras will catch you off guard. Therefore, it will be very helpful to stock up on healing items!
Food
Before you set off on the hunt, make sure your stomach is full! Go to the canteen and have the Mighty Meow Chef prepare a delicious meal to boost your HP, stamina, and other useful effects.
Know Your Monster
The Great Jagras is a brightly yellow monster that leads a pack of smaller Jagras, even in the middle of a fight!
When fighting the Great Jagras, it might be safer to attack it from the side and back. But you will deal much more damage if you aim for its weak spots: head, belly, and front claws.
And remember, don't be discouraged if you're not successful on your first try. Fighting big monsters is a learning experience - we've all been there! Plus, it will make your victory even sweeter!
Once you've defeated the Great Jagras, you can start crafting Jagras armor and weapons at the blacksmith! Definitely check that out and see if there are any abilities or defensive/offensive gains that catch your eye!
