Mortal Kombat 1 - The Missing Voice of Antony Starr

Antony Starr won't lend his voice to Homelander

Imagine turning on your beloved Mortal Kombat 1, ready for another round of bone-crushing action. Suddenly, your favorite character Homelander appears - but something is different. It's the voice! Yes, my dear gaming friends, it seems that actor Antony Starr has provided his face for Homelander's guest appearance, but not his voice.

The star of "The Boys" series confirmed through the Twitter account UppercutLLC that he won't be doing any voice work for the character in NetherRealm's fighting game. When asked on Instagram if he would voice Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1, Starr gave a rather brief answer: "nope".

Fans are disappointed

Naturally, the fans are quite disappointed about the whole situation. Starr does a fantastic job portraying Homelander in The Boys, and his foray into the world of fighting games just doesn't feel quite right without Starr's voice behind it.

It's even more disappointing when you consider that Starr did some voice work earlier this year for Homelander's appearance in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. There could be a thousand reasons why Starr pulled out of voicing Mortal Kombat 1, but the most likely explanation points to the SAG-AFTRA strike that took place between mid-July and early November.

Who will voice Homelander?

It's unknown who will voice Homelander in place of Starr, but they certainly have big shoes to fill. Of course, there's still a small chance that this whole thing could be a playful lie, but that seems unlikely.

The actor has since disabled comments on his Instagram, which likely has nothing to do with the situation surrounding Mortal Kombat 1, but has made it difficult for fans to express their sadness about his vocal absence.

When will Homelander make an appearance?

Homelander is set to appear in Mortal Kombat 1 in spring 2024. So if you're looking for a Steam Key for the game, you might want to secure one before that happens.

We just had the release of Omni-Man - for Kombat Pack owners - voiced by none other than J.K. Simmons himself. Other DLC fighters in the pipeline include Quan Chi, Peacemaker, Ermac, and Takeda, all set to be released between winter 2023 and summer 2024.

We all hope, of course, that Antony Starr will one day change his mind and give us the true Homelander experience in Mortal Kombat 1. But until then, we'll have to make do with what we have.
