New Releases on Steam - King of the Castle, Meg's Monster, and More

On average, about a dozen new games are released on Steam every day. While this may be a good thing, it can understandably be difficult to keep track of. Potentially exciting games can get lost in the flood of new releases unless one sifts through each and every game. That's exactly what we've done. If nothing catches your interest this week, we've gathered the best PC games you can currently play, as well as an ongoing list of games set to be released this year.

King of the Castle

This game is a fascinating party game about deadly politics in the dark ages. With support for up to 24 players, players are divided between a monarch and a group of nobles. The latter are tasked with voting on each of the monarch's schemes. No two sessions or stories will be the same (provided you don't play it forever). In short, it sounds like a great tabletop game brought to life, with seemingly endless possibilities for the nobles to fight the king (regicide included). King of the Castle features full Twitch integration and can be played online via video stream or at home on the couch.

Meg's Monster

In Meg's Monster, Roy, the protagonist, is an exception to the rule. He doesn't eat humans and when he comes across a frightened little girl in the underworld, he vows to help her. Perhaps his motive isn't entirely innocent: the girl's tears seem to trigger the end of the world, which is just as unappealing to monsters as it is to humans. What follows is a retro-stylized JRPG where the playable character is an absolute tank with 99,999 HP. The catch is that it's not about keeping Roy alive: Meg, the little girl, must be protected. This game has received many positive Steam reviews and definitely has a fascinating premise.

Rytmos

Rytmos is a picturesque puzzle game about gradually filling in musical compositions. When a puzzle is solved, a new element is added to the accompanying music and over time, the composition becomes more complex or "fuller". The soundtrack is also quite diverse: from "kalimba-based" music from Zimbabwe to early German electronic music and much more. Certain modifiers are also unlockable, so in Rytmos, for example, you can add a relaxing delay effect to your Ethiopian jazz music.

Sokfest

Sokfest is the 100th game from the Sokpop Collective and fittingly, a point-and-click adventure set at a festival with characters from previous Sokpop gems. The goal is to befriend each of these diverse cast characters and while some will welcome your friendship with good cheer, others require a bit more exploration and a pinch of puzzle-solving. Expect the usual humorous Sokpop comedy, some fun musical performances, and the usual cuddly, colorful Sokpop art style in Sokfest.

Dungeons of Aether

Rivals of Aether, a popular platform fighting game, gets a dungeon-crawling roguelite spin-off: Dungeons of Aether. It's a single-player, turn-based game where you control a four-person party of beautifully pixelated anthropomorphic characters. Based in the "steampunk" city of Julesvale, you explore its subterranean depths and battle enemies in semi-random, dice-based combat. The story mode is the main course, but there are also challenge dungeons that significantly increase the challenge with "true roguelike difficulty". This looks like a fun roguelike that also has its own charm, even if you're not a fan of the Rivals world.
