At PAX East in April 2022, Gearbox announced that more Borderlands games are on the way. With Gamescom 2022, the newest title New Tales from the Borderlands was introduced. With the New Tales, the Borderlands universe is expanded with additional characters and lore.
Promethea instead of Pandora
For a change, the game begins on the planet Promethea instead of Pandora as before. Fans of the series already know Promethea from Borderlands 3. Promethea is the home of the well-known weapon manufacturer Atlas. Atlas is known for its mother-of-pearl weapon grips and Smart Projectile Tracking System.
The story takes place after the Maliwan invasion of Promethea. Thus directly after the events of Borderlands 3.
The characters in New Tales from the Borderlands
The three playable characters in New Tales from the Borderlands are Anu, Octavio and Fran.
Fran owns a frozen yogurt shop and moves around in a rocket-powered hoverchair. She's not new to the Borderlands lore, as her shop, "Fran's Frogurts," was Rhys's favorite place on Promethea. With the invasion of the planet by Tediore, her shop is once again in danger, so she decides to do something about it.
Not much is known about the two brothers, Anu and Octavio. Anu is an altruistic scientist who dreams of a better world, and the wily Octavio dreams of fame and fortune.
New Tales from the Borderlands is divided into five acts, and each decision alters the course of the game. This also means that the game can be played multiple times and new things can be discovered each time. According to the developers, the possible endings should differ drastically from each other.
New Tales from the Borderlands Release and Editions
As usual, New Tales from the Borderlands will be released for all current platforms. The current release date is October 21, 2022. In addition to the Standard Edition, there is a Deluxe Edition.
The Deluxe Edition includes not only the New Tales from the Borderlands, but also the Tales from the Borderlands with Episode 1 to 5. So it's worth it for everyone who hasn't played the predecessor yet or doesn't have all the episodes.
For all pre-orders there is the Adventure Capital Pack as a bonus. This includes cosmetic items for Anu, Octavio and Fran. A starting capital of 10,000 coins in the game and the FL4K Vaultlander to collect.
