New World: The Art of Balancing Crafting Development - Insights into the Challenges and Solutions of the Development Team

Greetings, adventurers!

The pursuit of more powerful skills and higher values is a central element in New World. However, finding a balance between fast and slow development is crucial. Dive into the world of crafting and learn how the development team is mastering this balance.

BALANCING DEVELOPMENT

Tony Morton, lead system designer at New World, talks about his experiences in finding effective changes in development:

"When working on crafting and development, it's interesting how excited we are and then how hard reality hits us. I remember conversations with Phil about increasing the bonus for the first crafting. We went back and forth to make it really impressive and both started with a very ambitious increase to 5 or even 10 times the previous 2 times. We both thought: This is going to be great! But after about five minutes of testing, I quickly realized that increasing it by 10 times would destroy any sense of a leveling curve. It went soooo fast."

After reducing the bonus level to 5 times, they still had the same problem:

"For some professions, I was literally flying through the levels. Phil and I were both a bit disappointed because we really wanted to say, 'LOOK AT THIS BIG CHANGE', but we only increased it from 2 times to 3 times, haha."

Nevertheless, they are satisfied with the result and crafting development in New World is now smoother than at the original launch.

Feedback and Community Involvement

The development team always welcomes feedback from players. What changes in development would you like to see? Share your thoughts and suggestions on Discord, Reddit, or in the YouTube comments.
