Revenant Hill - The Sequel That Wasn't Meant to Be

"Revenant Hill," the sequel to the charming yet eerie game "Night in the Woods," has officially been canceled due to the developers' health issues. The award-winning adventure game "Night in the Woods" was set to receive a sequel in the form of "Revenant Hill," but the developer, The Glory Society, had to cancel the game due to health problems within the team.

"Night in the Woods" raises the question of whether one can truly return home as its protagonist, Mae, returns to her fading hometown. Released in 2017, Mae's quest for reconnection takes her to some unusual places. It is primarily a character-driven adventure.

The End of Revenant Hill

Although it wouldn't be classified as a pure horror game, it definitely had its eerie moments, and given the positive reception from players, it's no surprise that The Glory Society had plans for a sequel.

Announced earlier this year, it wasn't going to be an official sequel, but it would explore similar themes and take place in a slowly decaying town. Playing as a cat named Twigs, players would have to find ways to get by. And as you can see from the trailer, it had the same art style as "Night in the Woods".

Health issues within the team lead to cancellation

However, that won't be happening now due to health issues within the team. This doesn't necessarily mean the end of The Glory Society as developers, but as the team expressed, "this is the end of development on 'Revenant Hill'". The development team explained that two team members had to drop out due to serious health problems, resulting in the loss of "several irreplaceable roles".

Looking ahead and farewell words

In their statement, they emphasized that this was the clear path for the well-being of the team, which is more important than games. They thanked everyone who supported them and concluded with the words, "Take care of each other and support the workers who make the games you love. See you around." Hopefully, they will be able to develop games on their own terms wherever they end up.
