The latest hero in Overwatch 2, Mauga, not only bears a striking resemblance to the character Maui from the Pixar film Moana, but also directly references him. Mauga is a large, powerful Samoan tank fighter who caught players' attention due to his similarity to Maui. This resemblance goes beyond just looks, as Mauga quotes Maui in his voice lines.

This was noticed by gaming YouTuber Dan Bumbler, who shared a short video of Mauga on Twitter. In the clip, Mauga utters two voice lines. The first one is simply "The pleasure is all mine," while the second one is "You're welcome." What's noteworthy is that Mauga doesn't just say the second line, he sings it.
A Song from Moana
Anyone who has seen Moana knows exactly what this refers to. When Maui first meets Moana in the film, he sings a full musical number titled "You're Welcome," in which he repeatedly says the phrase "You're welcome."
Not Just a Coincidence
The chances of this being a coincidence are as small as Mauga and Maui are big. This is interesting because the obvious similarities between Mauga and Maui are somewhat controversial. Some fans are unhappy with what they perceive as a rather stereotypical portrayal of a Samoan man.
Mauga's Influence on Overwatch 2
It's still too early to say what impact Mauga will have on the game Overwatch 2. However, his damage reduction abilities and his talent for dual-wielding machine guns are sure to shake things up. Nevertheless, introducing a new character is unlikely to help improve the struggling prospects of Overwatch 2, as the game currently has a "mostly negative" overall rating on Steam.
