Panzer Corps 2 - The new Hex-War reference!

Panzer Corps 2 is the official sequel to the first part released in 2011. In this tactically challenging strategy game, you control your units in turn-based battles and gradually fight your way through a more than challenging campaign before you can join the exciting multiplayer battlefields with the constantly growing Wargame community.

The predecessor, Panzer Corps, already enjoyed a gigantic fan base shortly after its release, thus practically reviving the strategy classic "Panzer General" from 1994. A little over a decade later, publisher Slitherine shows once again how to massively upgrade the genre.

New features compared to the first part

Panzer Corps 2 surpasses its predecessor in all facets. First of all, the use of the Unreal Engine 4 is certainly noticeable. Attention to detail, 4k resolution, sharp textures and almost 1000 animated units. In the genre of turn-based WW2 strategy games, such an optical presentation is certainly an absolute rarity.

But how does the new installment feel gameplay-wise? Classically and yet refreshingly "new". In the usual way, you control your units over a map made up of hexagons and try to take and hold control points on the same. What may sound relatively simple at first quickly turns out to be highly complex, strategic and tactical. You should plan many rounds in advance and always know which strategy you are pursuing, because only then can you outwit the sophisticated and sometimes human-like AI.

Greenhorn or General?

Thanks to adjustable difficulty levels, the game offers the same challenge for absolute beginners as for absolute genre experts. Here, the battles are fought on land, on water and in the air, units have special abilities and are sometimes superior and sometimes inferior depending on the resistance they encounter. In addition, Panzer Corps 2 offers numerous new maneuvers compared to its predecessor, such as the overrun of enemy troops, the digging in or even the abandonment of a unit. This creates a multitude of new possibilities to control the course of the war.

An all-round extremely successful mix of the rock-paper-scissors principle combined with the tactical depth of a chess game.

Conclusion

All in all, Panzer Corps 2 does everything right that you already liked about its predecessor and supplements the overall package with new tactical possibilities, an elaborate 3D presentation and a campaign that will keep you entertained for countless hours. If that's not enough, you can jump into epic online battles against human opponents or use the included editor to create new maps and scenarios. Of course, as with the predecessor, the modding community will regularly provide additional content here. Thanks to its quick and easy entry, a well-developed learning curve and the adjustable AI of the opponents, absolute beginners as well as old veterans will want to invest countless hours here.
