In an interview about PAYDAY 3, the developers at Starbreeze discussed what players can expect and how the game compares to its predecessor. PAYDAY 3 is set to be released soon, and Starbreeze has provided us with details about the upcoming first-person shooter game. With a completely new environment and fresh gameplay mechanics, PAYDAY 3 is likely to be one of the biggest releases of the year.
In an interview with VGC, the biggest changes in PAYDAY 3 compared to PAYDAY 2 were discussed. The new game was described by Almir Listo, the head of the community, as "the evolution of the Payday series." Improved stealth elements and better SWAT units provide a smoother gameplay experience thanks to improved AI.
The Differences Between PAYDAY 2 and PAYDAY 3
According to Listo, SWAT teams in PAYDAY 3 will pay more attention to civilians: "If you have a lot of civilians around you, they won't throw grenades." The civilians themselves will also behave "much more human-like." Additionally, players will have "100 different skills" to choose from to build their characters in different ways.
For new players, PAYDAY 3 won't be too shocking. Andreas Hall-Penninger, the lead producer at Starbreeze, explained that there will be "four different tutorials for players who have never played Payday before" at the start of the game. Listo also emphasized that PAYDAY 3 "is not as much of a horde shooter as PAYDAY 2" and is "much more refined."
Fewer, But More Dangerous Enemies in PAYDAY 3
In PAYDAY 3, players will have to deal with fewer, but more dangerous and smarter law enforcement officers. Starbreeze is using new technologies to implement these changes and improvements. At launch, PAYDAY 3 will only include eight heists, compared to the 12 original heists in PAYDAY 2. According to Listo, these were "much smaller." More plans for post-launch will be announced closer to the release date in September.
Post-Launch: More Heists, Characters, and Weapons
Hall-Penninger emphasized that there will be "more heists, characters, and weapons" after the game's launch. New features and game modes are also possible. Listo referred to PAYDAY 3 as "our Godfather moment, where we conclude a trilogy." However, he made it clear that "it doesn't mean it's the end of anything for us, it's just the beginning."
