Phasmophobia Development Preview #8 - Overview of Equipment Changes and Badges

Welcome back, we have news for you!

All information and images are work in progress (WIP) and are subject to change until publication.

Level Reset, Prestige, and Badges

As you know, with Progression 2.0, everyone's level will be reset to zero. However, we will set you to Prestige 1 so that you don't have to unlock difficulty levels or maps that you already play (and you'll get the first cool badge right away!).

In addition to this reset, your level will be permanently commemorated with a badge on your character's arm.

Upon logging in for the first time after the Progression Update, you will be prompted to select how your badge will look. The number of available options will depend on your progress before the update! Once it's set, there will be no way to change it. So choose wisely!

Here's a preview of some WIP badges and which level is required to unlock each component.

Equipment Changes and D.O.T.S. Projector

The developers have received many questions about how equipment will change in the future. So it's time to share some information!

Some equipment will be reworked, some more than others, to ensure that they are important and useful in various situations.

The D.O.T.S. Projector has had its ups and downs over the course of its life, and they thought it was time for a reassessment of its issues and potential improvements.

The main problem was that it was very unintuitive, visually unpolished, and time-consuming. The developers attempted to address some of these issues by increasing the trigger probability and eventually adding a safety timer. This led to further problems, such as two projectors being triggered simultaneously or visual effects occurring during hunts or events.

With Progression 2.0, the D.O.T.S. Projector has been completely overhauled.

The D.O.T.S. visuals are now the actual spirit, meaning you have to shine your infrared lights near the actual position of the ghost. This creates a much more engaging gameplay experience for players. You can use D.O.T.S. to see where your ghost is or use other equipment like salt or motion sensors to find a better spot for your projector.

Ghosts with D.O.T.S. evidence can now briefly become visible when illuminated with infrared light. During this time, they will wander towards the nearest player (or randomly in the room) before disappearing again.

Equipment Upgrades

In addition, equipment upgrades make finding D.O.T.S. ghosts easier throughout the game:

  • Level I is a laser grid pen. Similar to a flashlight, it allows you to quickly search for evidence. The downside is its short range and low light intensity.
  • Level II is the current D.O.T.S. projector, a placeable device that covers an average-sized light area. Now you can lure the ghost into it by standing nearby!
  • Level III increases the light output to maximum. This placeable projector scans the room with a wide beam of light and greater range, making it easier to find ghosts in larger rooms.

Different players can bring different levels of equipment. Try out combinations and find out what works best for your team!

That's it for Development Preview #8
