PlayStation 5 - PlayStation 5 - 32 million consoles sold

The PlayStation 5 has achieved remarkable performance in just a few months: 32 million consoles worldwide. In the Christmas quarter of 2022, 7.1 million units were sold, making it the best quarter for PS5 sales so far. Despite stock availability issues and restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it seems people are finally buying the consoles they have been waiting for for years.

Availability Issues Resolved

According to Sony, the availability issues of the PlayStation 5 have been resolved and the consoles are now available in sufficient quantities. Xbox Series S and X also had similar issues at the start, but now they seem to be under control.

A Comparison to PS4

It's impressive that the PS5 has already reached 32 million units, compared to the 38 million PS4 units in the same time. The PS5 has had an enormous impact on the gaming industry in a very short time.

User Numbers for PlayStation Plus

While the sales figures of the PS5 are impressive, the user numbers growth for the PlayStation Plus service in Q3 2023 is lower than expected. With 48 million users compared to 45.5 million in the previous quarter, the decline can be attributed to changes in the pricing and feature structure in June 2022.
