With the PlayStation VR headset, Sony released its first VR solution for a console in 2016. PS4 users were looking forward to a large number of games that allowed them to dive into virtual worlds. Highlights included Skyrim VR, Blood & Truth, and the extremely popular Astro Bot. Even though the VR genre is still niche, it was quickly clear that Sony would also bring the VR concept to the PlayStation 5, but in a completely revised form. We've known for a few weeks now that a VR headset is coming for the PS5. But now the company has also revealed details about the new PSVR system for the first time.
New controllers and improved tracking
The first detail that caused a stir was the design of the new VR controllers. While the first PSVR used the familiar Move controllers, Sony is now developing a completely independent control system for the new system. With its open, round shape that surrounds the hand, the new controller looks nothing like its predecessor. The manufacturer also takes new approaches to the functions and equips the control units, among other things, with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, as known from the current PS5 controller.
In addition, the controller is said to be able to detect touches and thus offer another control option in addition to the buttons. Also when tracking the movements one apparently says goodbye completely from the old hardware. In future, a PlayStation Camera will no longer be necessary to detect them, but the headset itself should be able to do so. The release date is currently set for next year. Until then, we will keep you up to date with current news on the topic in the Keyfuchs Infoportal on a regular basis.
