PlayStation VR2 Headset - Sony reduces shipment numbers

Disappointing pre-order numbers are causing Sony Group Corp. to take this step, with implications for the virtual reality sector.

At the beginning of the year, Sony halved its quarterly forecast for shipments of the PSVR2, to be released on February 22nd, to around one million units instead of the planned two million. Sony wanted to increase acceptance and user growth for VR with the second generation of its headsets, but now has to accept a loss. However, the updated number of units available can be increased if necessary, should demand increase.

Sony's stock lost gains after this announcement. Reasons for the lack of interest in the new VR glasses could be the limited game selection, as well as the incompatibility of the new headset with other consoles. Currently, the VR2 glasses only work with the PS5. Sony is not completely hopeless though: they are firmly convinced that VR will be the future, even if the age for it has not really arrived yet.
