The black poles that you see in the game glowing in different colors appear all over the world of Crimson and Purple. What role they play, the game does not tell you anything directly.
With the ability to explore the open world freely, you can discover mysteriously glowing poles sticking out of the ground on your journey. You can pull them out of the ground, but if you do that, they immediately turn to dust and disappear. What these poles do remains a mystery - unless you visit the history class at the academy.
First of all: Do not worry too much about the poles at the beginning. They are endgame content, which is why you can focus on the three paths of the main story. You need all the skills of Miraidon or Koraidon (depending on the edition) anyway before you can find all the poles.
However, you can collect all the poles you find right from the start. In the colors yellow, green, blue and purple they glow. There are 8 of them in each color on the world map. If you have collected all the poles, the gate of one of the four shrines scattered across Paldea opens. After completing your history course at the academy, you also have the opportunity to see these gates on the map. After the final conversation with teacher Moira you will receive the corresponding mission. You can now also enter the portals and find a legendary disaster Pokémon at level 60 inside.
These Pokémon await you:
- Chongjian (Darkness/Plant)
- Baojian (Darkness/Ice)
- Yuyu (Darkness/Fire)
- Dinglu (Darkness/Ground)
