Poly Bridge 2 - The game for builders and engineers

Poly Bridge 2 is a puzzle and strategy game developed by Dry Cactus, and is a sequel to the 2016 game Poly Bridge. The game's fun design and realistic physics impressed players when it was first released. The sequel ups the ante even further.

The game challenges players to build bridges in order to allow vehicles to cross over a body of water, under airplanes, around ships, and much more.

In a 2D construction view, the player builds their bridges, which must be able to withstand the incoming traffic. The opening sequence introduces newcomers to the game mechanics with tips on asphalt paving and the basic principle of bridge building. The use of triangles in construction is in the foreground in order to give the construction more stability and it is also informed about the different materials. Wood and steel should be used to make the bridge even more resistant. Ropes and cables are used in suspension bridges and hydraulics are used in drawbridges.

A separate financial framework is set for each level, which must be adhered to in order to solve the task. Those who want to stay as far below the budget as possible use cheaper wood instead of expensive materials such as steel. However, this requires clever planning and exceeding the finances does not lead to failure, but makes up the majority of the game fun. The game starts out simple, but later presents players with increasingly difficult tasks that require creativity to solve. Tips and information about the course of the game can be called up at any time via cards from a rolodex, for example explaining suspension bridges and showing the placement of pistons. After completing the level, snapshots of buildings by other players from the community are displayed, which can be an inspiration for future levels.

Global leaderboards are available for each level, which in addition to the score also show whether the bridge collapsed in the level and whether the budget was undercut. Poly Bridge 2 therefore has plenty of replay value and appeals to players who would like to compete with others for the top spot on the leaderboard.

The presentation of Poly Bridge 2 follows that of the first part. The polygon design with its subtle colors makes an excellent impression and gives the game its own charm. Schadenfreude sets in when cars drive over the cliff and causes the occasional chuckle. The system requirements are pleasantly low and Poly Bridge 2 is even running on power-saving laptops.

The sound is functional and unobtrusive. The musical accompaniment reminds of cartoon shows and underlines the sometimes funny game action with its cheerful melodies.
