PlayStation 5 fans have something to look forward to, as there is a new system software beta update. It offers a wealth of new features and improvements, including Discord Voice Chat, Variable Refresh Rate support for 1440p, and a range of UX, Accessibility, and Social Feature expansions.
Beta participants from the US, Canada, Japan, UK, Germany, and France will receive further information and instructions for downloading the beta via email. As with previous betas, some features may not be included in the final update or may change significantly before the system update is released worldwide in the coming months.
New Social Features
Discord Voice Chat on PS5.
You can now join a Discord Voice Chat on the PS5 console and easily chat with friends on most other gaming platforms. To get started, simply link your Discord and PlayStation Network accounts from the PS5 console with the following steps*. Then use the Discord app on your mobile device or computer to start a voice chat on the PS5 console (make sure the Discord app is up to date). You can also show friends on Discord when you’re online and what you’re playing.
Share Screen Request Directly from Profile
You can now send a Share Screen request to a friend or share your own screen directly from their profile. Just select the Share Screen icon from the friend’s profile.
Join Game Icon in Party Chat
A Joinable icon is now displayed on the Voice Chat card for all party members who are currently playing a game that you can join. You can join the game simply by selecting the player and then selecting [Join Game] from the menu.
Friends Who Play Tile
In the Game Hub, you can now see which friends have the game, who is online, and who is currently playing the game. By selecting the tile, you can see what your friends are up to and access their profiles for further interaction.
