What Railway Empire is about
Based on the cult game "Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon", you are also tasked with developing a thriving railway network in Railway Empire. You can play both a campaign spanning the period from 1830 to 1930 and a sandbox mode. Rails are laid, train stations are built and train connections are set up. In the meantime, you try to earn as much money as possible to buy out your competition on the stock market. The focus of the game is clearly on the sandbox mode, because the campaign is (unfortunately) quite short and simple, and can rather be understood as an extensive tutorial.
Current Information on Railway Empire
The base game was already released in early 2018 for almost all common systems (PC, PS4, Xbox One and Linux). A total of seven DLCs have been released so far, each with new playable areas and locomotives. The last one is called "Down Under" and was released on May 8, 2020. As the name suggests, this is all about Australia. With New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Victoria, four new areas can be discovered. In addition, you can rely on three new locomotives and transport many new goods. But that's not all. The package also includes new challenges and scenarios that can be played similar to a campaign. So that this does not get too boring in the barren Australia, the new settlement feature was also included, with which new cities can be founded at will.
"Down Under" is advertised as the final DLC for Railway Empire. It seems as if Kalypso has decided to let this fantastic simulator rest after two years of fun. Or are we mistaken here? Because after all, the game is still not available for the Nintendo Switch. After several delays, a new release date has now also been announced. Railway Empire should currently be available for all Switch players on June 19. We are looking forward to how the game will present itself on Nintendo's current console and whether there will be any additional playable content after all.
Railway Empire's Target Group
It is clear that Railway Empire was developed for all fans of construction and simulation games. Since the game takes an old classic as its model and presents its gameplay in a new guise, there is also a reference to an older generation of players. Nevertheless, Railway Empire is also an absolute recommendation for all newcomers to this genre and can be recommended unconditionally.
Other well-known games by Kalypso Media
Kalypso Media is mainly known for simulations and economic strategy games. The most popular titles of the manufacturer include the Tropico series, the Sudden Strike series, but also new editions of popular titles such as Patrizier or Dungeon Keeper.
