Rainbow Six Siege - The Y8S3 Update

Y8S3 DESIGNER'S NOTES

In the latest edition of the Designer's Notes, we delve deep into the balancing changes coming with the Y8S3 update for our beloved Rainbow Six Siege. We take a behind-the-scenes look and explain the reasoning behind certain decisions.

MESSAGE FROM THE TEAM

We have observed the steady rise in popularity of Iana and Warden in high-level matches. Iana's high presence is mainly influenced by her access to Frag Grenades, while Warden's high presence is related to the strength of the 1.5x scopes in Defender loadouts.

OPERATOR BALANCING

The changes range from minor adjustments to the abilities of operators like Fuze and Grim to a complete overhaul of the Gu-Mine gadget type. With these adjustments, we aim to ensure that every operator is a worthwhile choice and that certain operators are not considered "must picks."

GADGET BALANCING

There are also some exciting updates in the realm of gadgets. In addition to improved consistency when destroying gadgets, there is a revamp of the "Shattered Glass System," which causes the glass window of a shield to shatter upon receiving a melee hit.

WEAPON BALANCING

Last but not least, we haven't forgotten about the weapons. Every shotgun, except for the BOSG 12 TCSG12 and ACS12, has been reworked. The changes aim to reward good practices such as headshots or holding angles and make shotguns less of "spray-and-pray" weapons.

"PLAYLIST ECOSYSTEM UPDATE"

Lastly, there is an important update for the playlist ecosystem. With the goal of making Quick Matches truly "quick," we have made some changes. This includes reducing the action phase to 165 seconds (from 180), reducing the operator pick phase to 20 seconds (from 30), and many other adjustments.
