Red Dead Online is the multiplayer of the main game Red Dead Redemption 2 and is also available for PC from November 05, 2019. The owners of one of the two console versions of RDR 2 have been able to play multiplayer since May 15, 2019 on Xbox One or PlayStation 4.
The multiplayer of Grand Theft Auto V is something like the big brother of RD Online and is simply called GTA Online. Both games have a very high claim, with GTA Online having the advantage that it has been on the market since 2013 and thus has a whole six years of development advantage. At the same time, however, it also shows where the path of Red Dead Online can lead and, according to developer Rockstar Games, should also lead.
If you haven't played either of the games so far, we'll explain what the RDR 2 Online mode is all about.
What is Red Dead Online?
As already mentioned, it is the multiplayer mode of the game and is played online on servers provided by Rockstar Games. The lobbies for PS 4 and Xbox One are a maximum of 32 players each and there is also no information that the PC version supports more players on a server. Since the server capacity is identical on the different platforms in GTA Online, we do not expect any changes in the future.
The online mode of RDR 2 is, like the story mode of the game, set in the Wild West and also takes place on the same map. The exact year is 1899 and so, in addition to smoking Colts, wide prairies, you will also find a lot of cowboys, sheriffs and Indians.
To earn money or dollars and gold, you have to complete missions and other tasks. The parallels to GTA Online are quite clear here, because, in addition to classic bank robberies, thefts and all kinds of other illegal methods, you can also trade and smuggle to get your money. The money, in turn, can be used to buy weapons, clothing, horses, properties, real estate and other more or less useful things.
What's new with the PC version of Red Dead Online?
Since the console versions have been out for over a year now, as a PC player you get a lot more content than the console players had at the beginning. With the release of the PC version, all PC players get direct and free access to the Frontier Update, which brings three playable roles with it.
You can choose between three special paths that affect your skills and even unlock more game content. The roles are the bounty hunter, the trader, and the collector, which is exactly what the name suggests.
Red Dead Online Traders
As a trader, you produce valuable goods for your business with the help of your camp partner Cripps, which you can sell profitably. To produce the goods, you have to procure animal carcasses, skins or certain parts of animals in the world of Red Dead Online and process them further. In addition to animal products, you can also order supplies or play them in supply missions. Once you have collected enough, Cripps can begin to produce the finished product. Then you sell your goods to traders. As in GTA Online, deliveries over greater distances earn you more money, but are also more risky.
While you are working as a trader, you collect experience in this area and thus unlock skills and helpful items.

Red Dead Online Collector
As the name suggests, the Collector role in Red Dead Online is all about, well, collecting. You'll be able to find all sorts of things as you explore the world of Red Dead Online. The Collector's Bag you receive contains a map with markers for valuable finds. Each week you'll get a new list of items that can be found in the world. Not all of the Collector items are easy to find, some are more or less hidden. Anything you can get your hands on can be sold to Madam Nazar individually or in sets. Complete sets sell for more money, so it's always worth trying to find the entire set.
As you increase your experience as a Collector, you'll also unlock abilities and items that will help you in your search

- The Pennington Field Shovel will help you dig up your Collector item even in the hardest of earth
- The Refined Binoculars will allow you to see potential finds from much further away
- The Metal Detector is one of the most important tools you can unlock
- With the Horseback Assistance you can even collect valuable herbs while riding
- With a Horse Lantern you can find your way even in the darkest of night
Red Dead Online Bounty Hunter
Just like in the Wild West, there are many criminals in the online world of Red Dead Redemption 2. As a bounty hunter, you can make money with these lawbreakers with the right license. To get this license, you need to visit the bounty hunter in Rhodes and buy it there. But once you have the license in your hands, go on the hunt for criminals dead or alive. You can find the wanted posters with the bounties in all sheriff's offices, railway stations or post offices in the country. With increasing experience, you can even hunt other online players for a bounty.
After working as a bounty hunter for a while, you can unlock new skills and items that will help you in your hunt.

Red Dead Online New Feature in 2020
With the release of Red Dead Online on PC, Rockstar Games has also announced that there will be significantly more content at shorter intervals. In an interview, for example, the photographer was mentioned as an example. But the existing roles should also get more opportunities and be expanded even further. So you should be able to go your own way even more and decide for yourself whether to obey or break the law to make money. The plots and real estate should also be expanded, so that you can buy the right house with enough pocket money. Quite incidentally, it appears that, of course, numerous new tasks and missions are coming up.
This sounds to us as if Rockstar plans to go the same way with Red Dead Online as with GTA Online. This means that we can look forward to a lot of new content and that the fun of the game will be guaranteed in the long term.
