Microsoft allegedly aware of Redfall's failure
Insiders at Microsoft reportedly knew a month before the official launch of Redfall that the game from Arkane Studios Austin would be a "disaster." Jeff Grubb, a well-known journalist with connections in the gaming industry, reported on an episode of Last of the Nintendogs about a source at Microsoft who told him that Redfall would be a flop.
Grubb decided to wait until the game's release to see if the prediction would come true. However, he now regrets his decision and admits that he should have trusted his source more.
Microsoft's role in the studios
According to Grubb, Microsoft has hardly changed the studios and continues to let them work as before. He emphasizes that this means that Microsoft hardly manages the studios at all. The software giant's attitude is that the managers were already there before their employment and still manage these studios.
In contrast, Jez Corden of Windows Central emphasized that Microsoft played no role in the decision to delay or release Redfall. He added that Microsoft and ZeniMax are still working with limited integration.
Phil Spencer's reaction to the Redfall issue
Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft Gaming, addressed the Redfall issue during the latest episode of Kinda Funny Xcast. He apologized for the state of the game and said it was neither what he expected nor what he wanted. This statement clearly shows the disappointment over the failure of Redfall.
