Capcom has released an update for the Steam version of Resident Evil 5 that removes Games for Windows Live (GfWL) from the game. GfWL was an online service that connected PCs to Microsoft's Live services, launched in 2007 and discontinued in 2014.
It caused issues with player data and split-screen co-op in Resident Evil 5.
Issue with Co-Op Function on Steam Resolved
Although the co-op function was originally included in Resident Evil 5, the GfWL layer caused compatibility issues when the game was ported to Steam, resulting in the function being disabled.
But with the new update, players can finally go through the zombie apocalypse together with a friend again without having to resort to mods. The patch notes mention "other minor bug fixes", but it doesn't specify what changes were made exactly.
A Fun Co-Op Experience
Resident Evil 5 was often criticized for not being as good as its predecessor, but the co-op gameplay option is still an entertaining experience that gets over-the-top towards the end of the game.
With the release of the update, players can play the game again and prepare for the release of the Resident Evil 4 remake, which is highly anticipated by many fans.
