The release of the Netflix series announced in the fall of 2020 for the cult classic Resident Evil is getting closer and closer. In addition, more and more information is being revealed. So it seems appropriate to dedicate a small contribution to the video game series. Maybe even newcomers who don't know the series yet (if there are any left?) Will take notice of it.
A milestone in video game history
In 1996, Shinji Mikami (also known for Devil May Cry and Viewtiful Joe) created one of the most celebrated survival horror video game series of all time: Resident Evil. The story is simple. An unknown virus (so-called T-virus) is slowly but surely spreading around the world. While in the first installment of the series the task of the player is to find out the origin of the virus, in the sequels, as a result of the massive spread, a almost post-apocalyptic feeling arises. In other words: everything gets bigger and more action-packed.
After the mega success of Resident Evil 4, the series faltered until it experienced a complete turnaround with Resident Evil 7. A big change is the switch from the previous third-person experience to the contemporary first-person perspective. But the biggest change compared to the last predecessors is that the developers have oriented themselves more towards horror and less towards action again. So there was a return to the good old strengths of the series. Rightly so, because how do you say it again? "Never Change a Running System"!
Announcement of a Netflix series
While a successor to the celebrated 7th part with Resident Evil Village is in the starting blocks (release 7th of May), an animated Netflix series has also been announced, for which only recently information has become known. So the plot should play parallel to the events in the first two parts. Leon S. Kennedy (Resident Evil 4) and Claire Redfield (Resident Evil 2) are on board, who are even supposed to fight side by side. The plot is set in the White House, where a zombie apocalypse breaks out. It is also interesting to know that Bronwen Hughes (known for Breaking Bad) is taking over the direction - at least for the first two episodes. It remains exciting what is in store for us.
