The Return of a Cult Classic
In case you missed it: A 4K remaster of Rise of the Triad, the cult classic first-person shooter where you shoot cultists, is set to release later this year. It's a collaboration between Apogee Entertainment, Nightdive Studios, and New Blood Interactive, who recently shared some additional details about the update to this classic game.
New HUD Options and Enemy Selection
Among these details is the addition of new HUD options in both minimalist and classic wide status bar styles. While the original HUD could display a pixelated version of the selected characters, the remaster will include an animated version that changes when they receive power-ups (such as glowing eyes in God Mode or transforming into a dog in Dog Mode) and shows a pained expression when they take damage.
Alternative enemies and restored content
Another option in Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition allows you to choose whether alternative enemies appear. In addition to restoring rejected maps and unused elements and textures in the level editor, cut versions of NPCs that were previously only seen during the credits will also return. These restored characters, including female versions of guards, replace regular enemies with an "alternative actor chance" set in the menu.
New episode and improved level design
The Ludicrous Edition also includes a new episode called The Hunt Continues, an improved level editor with Steam Workshop support, map previews, and working multiplayer. A demo featuring playable levels from The Hunt Begins, Dark War, Extreme ROTT, and The Hunt Continues will be available on Steam during the Steam Next Fest from June 19 to 26.
