Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus-G SSD - For tomorrow's gaming

The Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus-G is currently the high-end PCIe-4.0 SSD for gamers. It combines a very fast controller with the currently best flash memory on the market. In addition, there is specially developed firmware for DirectStorage.

DirectStorage is the upcoming API from Microsoft that promises enormous speeds for work and play.

Vorteile
  • Consistently good performance

  • Firmware specifically developed for DirectStorage

  • Further development of an already good product
Nachteile
  • High price

  • SSD cooler for best performance required

The Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus-G is an evolution of the Rocket 4 Plus and also inherits the best features of that. This includes the 176-layer TLC flash memory from Micron, which has performed very well in all previous tests. At the same time, the E18 controller from Phison is also used, which has convinced in tests just as much.

The biggest difference compared to the predecessors will therefore be the O2GO firmware optimized for games. This is based on the I/O+ firmware from Phison and was specifically developed for best performance in DirectStorage games.

If you now want to know what DirectStorage is exactly, we have HERE the right article for you.

DirectStorage is still new territory in gaming. But Microsoft recently announced that DirectStorage 1.1 with GPU decompression will be released for developers by the end of 2022. Of course, you would already benefit today from a Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus-G in your PC or the PS5. But there is only a real advantage when the first games support the system.

Variants of the Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus-G

The Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus-G will be available with 1TB, 2TB and 4TB. There will unfortunately not be an 8TB version like the predecessor. The reason for this is the flash type of this version, which is not compatible with the new firmware.

The performance data of the Rocket 4 Plus-G only marginally exceed those of the Rocket 4 Plus. On the official website, 7,300 MBps are mentioned for read operations and 6,900 MBps for write operations. With random read / write operations, the 4 Plus-G should come close to the predecessors and enable at least 1 million IOPS.

As usual from Sabrent, the Rocket 4 Plus-G will receive a 5-year warranty if you register it on the official website. In addition, the warranty for write operations is increased by 700 TB per TB of storage capacity.

Prices of the Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus-G

In terms of price, Sabrent is oriented towards the market and is positioned in the segment of the other highend PCIe-4.0-SSDs such as the Samsung 990 Pro and WD Black SN850X. Currently only the dollar prices can be found on the official website.
