Sea of Thieves - Behind the Scenes of Ship's Crests

The Origin of Ship Badges in Sea of Thieves

The idea of using ship badges to display ship names had been in the works for a long time among the developers of Sea of Thieves. First, they had to decide where to display them on each ship. Once the position was determined, the team focused on making the first badge available to all players: the Sailor Ship's Crest.

More Badges and Design Freedom

After the base badge was established, the team wanted to develop 33 more badges: five in the Pirate Emporium and 28 more as rewards for captains who advance in the various ship orientations. The concept art teams had a lot of freedom in designing the badges and could use various motifs and silhouettes.

The Shiny Lodestar Ship's Crest

In the ninth season, the Lodestar Ship's Crest was added as the first new badge design. It has a royal purple and gold design and belongs to the popular Lodestar series. The challenge was to integrate the existing design motifs.

Reactions to the New Design

After the new Lodestar Ship's Crest was completed, it was released with the update of the ninth season. The reactions to the new design were very positive, and the team plans to add even more badges in the future.

Creativity and Customization in Sea of Thieves

Overall, the development of ship badges shows the hard work and creativity that went into designing these elements in Sea of Thieves. Players can now customize their ships and proudly display their chosen names. These customization options help each player feel unique and proud to write their own pirate legend.
