Sony - PSVR2 an innovative VR experience

According to Sony, the upcoming PSVR2 headset for the PlayStation 5 will not be compatible with the "old" PSVR games. This was announced by Hideaki Nishino in an episode of the official PlayStation Podcast. The head of PlayStation's platform experience also gave the reason for this.

PSVR2 will be a real VR experience

In the podcast, Nishino called the PSVR2 a real VR experience of the next generation. This is to be ensured by the new possibilities of the PlayStation Virtual-Reality 2. In addition to inside-out tracking and eye tracking, there will also be other interesting improvements. The new 3D audio is to create a particularly immersive gaming experience together with a 4K HDR display.

The controllers will be equipped with adaptive triggers and will also be able to provide haptic feedback.
These innovations are also the reason why old PSVR games are simply not compatible.

PSVR2 Games Announced

Sony has also announced first games for PSVR2. These include:

  • Horizon Call of the Mountain
  • Resident Evil 8
  • No Man`s Sky
  • Among Us VR
  • Firmament
  • The Walking Dead. Saints and Sinners Chapter 2 – Retribution

So far, Sony has not given a release date for PSVR2. Insiders speculate, however, that the system will not be released until 2023. The developer is just as secretive when it comes to prices. But here too there are first speculations, which amount to just under 400 euros. This would make sense in order to be able to compete with the systems from Oculus.
