Star Citizen, the well-known MMO, has received an important update: Alpha 3.18: Lasting Legacies. This is a technical update that makes the game even more immersive, but also lays the foundation for a fully persistent universe.
Improved Persistence in the Game
With the new technical update, a persistent entity streaming technology has been added. This technology ensures that objects moved by players can be dynamically tracked on specific servers. This allows players to leave their mark on the world and makes Star Citizen one of the most immersive and realistic MMOs on the market. The improved persistence will also serve as the basis for a complete in-game persistence.
New Sales Professions
One significant addition through the update is the introduction of the sales profession, which opens up a new economic sector for players outside of combat. Players can now retrieve materials from target objects and sell them to make a profit. New technologies and tools, such as the complete Cargo Refactor and the Drake Vulture vehicle, have been provided for this purpose. Another feature is the "Soft Death," which allows for a more pleasant gaming experience.
Partial Data Loss Possible
However, the update has also brought some problems, such as difficulties logging in. Partial data loss is also possible when the next update, 3.18.1, is released. The developer has promised that aUEC and reputation will remain untouched. Only items obtained through in-game purchases or loot would be affected. The developer will, however, save information on purchases to restore them in a future update.
Ambitious Plans for the Future
Last year, Cloud Imperium Games presented an ambitious five-year plan for Star Citizen. Unfortunately, they later decided to scale back these plans to avoid frustrating players with delays. Nevertheless, the game has already raised over half a billion dollars through crowdfunding and is thus one of the most successful crowdfunding projects of all time. With the Alpha 3.18: Lasting Legacies update, it's now even better!
