Star Citizen - Up to ten million players in one battle

The goals of the space adventure Star Citizen have always been high.

And the latest live stream with some of the developers showed that these goals are still very demanding. So it happened that a fan asked during the live stream how many players can take part in a space or infantry battle at the same time. Before Technical Director of Content Sean Tracy could answer the question, Associate Creative Producer Jared Huckaby pointed out to him that everything he says now will be demanded by the fans in the future.

But that didn't stop Sean Tracy from answering that there would be ten million players at the same time. The eyebrow winking afterwards could only be seen by someone who also saw the video. Shortly afterwards he gave as a second answer that there would be as many as possible. With the current development status it is unfortunately not possible to give a more precise answer, but in the future we will simply try to find out in which direction it will develop.

Server Meshing is said to be the key component to allow hundreds of players to play in the same region. Server Meshing is already known from games like PlanetSide 2.

With this technology, several servers share the tasks. Another side effect are short loading times. A release date or year was not given, until then there will be some new campaigns and free fly weeks. So in the future you can look forward to what Star Citizen will become and what ideas the developers will implement.
