The next game in the Star Wars Jedi series, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, will not be released on the last generation consoles, the PS4 and Xbox One.
The reason for this is the more powerful hardware of the PS5, which allows the development team to create larger maps with more details, greater density, wider enemy/NPC variety, and overall better image quality.
New Experiences in the Star Wars Galaxy
Game director Stig Asmussen explained that they didn't want to break what they achieved in the first game, but rather wanted to improve the player experience. The team realized they could take advantage of the faster processors, larger/faster memory, better loading times, etc. of the PS5 to create a true next-gen experience in the Star Wars universe.
No Ray Tracing
Although the team considered ray tracing for the new Star Wars Jedi game, they ultimately decided against it, as the creation of environmental graphics between generations was different.
Developer Respawn Entertainment hopes that this decision will give players a completely new experience. The game is set to release this year and will be available exclusively on the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
