An eventful year for Star Wars: The Old Republic
Hello everyone! Today, we celebrate the 12th anniversary, and what a year it has been. I look back once again on everything that happened in 2023, and I couldn't be prouder of the Star Wars™: The Old Republic team.
The developers kicked off the year by providing the 64-bit client for all players, releasing Galactic Seasons 4 "Passage of Peace," PvP Season 2 "Piercing the Veil," and opening a test server in the Asia-Pacific region, fully hosted in the cloud. It was an incredible start to the new year.
Mid-Year - A Transition and New Content
In the middle of the year, the development team transitioned to Broadsword and delivered Game Update 7.3 "Old Wounds" packed with new content, including a story update, the Shrine of Silence Flashpoint, and a brand new area on Voss called Interpreter's Retreat. Game Update 7.3 also featured an art overhaul, with various assets and the environment of Interpreter's Retreat being updated.
Cloud Migration and Game Update 7.3.1
In the following months, they officially migrated all their servers to the cloud! How cool is that? This initiative has greatly streamlined processes and enabled the developers to carry out further upgrades to enhance the overall health and stability of the game.
After this migration, they launched Game Update 7.3.1, which came with Galactic Seasons 5 "Confidence in Power" (how about that Loth-Cat Kitten pet?) and introduced Ahsoka-inspired items into the game.
The New Server and the Next Game Update
Now we find ourselves in the present. The developers have opened a new server in the APAC region called Shae Vizla, and it has been incredible playing alongside new and returning players. I'm about halfway to achieving legendary status!
After the opening of the new server, they launched Game Update 7.4 "Chains in the Dark," which takes players back to a new area on Ord Mantell to continue the storyline involving Heta Kol and the Hidden Chain.
Looking Ahead to 2024
I've written a lot about the achievements of the past year, leaving you with quite a lot to enjoy for the holidays, but I also want to give you a glimpse into 2024.
With the upcoming release in 7.4.1, the developers are doing something pretty cool in Galactic Seasons 6. The story and main reward of the season will take you back to a place you haven't visited in a long time, and it has quite a beautiful view.
As we look beyond 7.4.1 and move towards 7.5, the developers have some new things planned for the players.
