Starfield: A New Era for Bethesda
Starfield is on the verge of release and is one of the most highly anticipated RPG games of this year. Bethesda has gone all out with its space setting, bringing features from well-known games we all know and love into the upcoming Starfield. From penalties for criminal activities to unique companions, Bethesda has shed light on a variety of exciting features.
Crime and Punishment in Starfield
Hold on, you've committed crimes against Starfield and its inhabitants? That's right, what do you have to say in your defense? A prison system is coming to Starfield, and it will function very similarly to Bethesda's other in-game prisons. When asked about criminal activities in the game and the consequences for them, the developer responded, "Yes, you can choose to go to prison or pay a fine if you get arrested (or even attempt to escape)."
Faction Play and Double Agents
Bethesda further clarified, "There is civilization, there is government, and there are laws," and stated that "we will explore the themes of crime and punishment in our futuristic universe in a few cases." If you enjoy playing as a chaotic or two-faced character but don't want to risk going to jail, you'll be glad to hear that you can safely play as a double agent instead.
History of Mechs
For all history enthusiasts, Bethesda also answered a question about the mechs in the game: "The mechs are remnants from the Colony War," wrote the developer. Both the Freestar Collective and the United Colonies had mechs, with the former truly mastering them. The United Colonies, on the other hand, relied more on controlled alien creatures "from their Xenoware Division." Both mechs and aliens were banned after the war ended.
Your Own Home in the Stars
If you're more of a homebody, it seems that Starfield has plenty of houses for sale: "There are apartments in various cities that the player can acquire," Bethesda wrote. "Some you have to buy, and some are rewards for specific quests."
Companion System in Starfield
Although there isn't a companion as iconic as Lydia in Skyrim, the companion system in Starfield is shaping up to be a pretty solid system. When asked about companions and their benefits, Bethesda replied, "They don't level up, but they come in different ranks depending on the companion." For example, if you come across a character who is skilled with rifles, you can hire them to have your back. Or you can look for an astrodynamics expert to enhance your gravity-defying jumps.
Religion in Starfield
Another realistic aspect in Starfield is religion. Bethesda confirmed that a variety of real-world religions exist in the RPG, along with three brand-new belief systems. Sanctum Universum has followers who believe that God actually exists somewhere in the universe. The Enlightened, on the other hand, are an atheistic group that focuses on humanitarian and community work.
Mysterious Religion of House Va-ruun
Lastly, Starfield features House Va-ruun, a mysterious religion that follows a "celestial entity known as the Great Serpent."
