Starfield - Bethesda removes Russian language support

Removal of Russian language option sparks discussions

In a Starfield subreddit, it has been noticed that Bethesda has removed the Russian language support for the upcoming RPG on PC. This has caused mixed reactions among fans. As of April 4th, Russian subtitles and in-game interface were present, but on April 13th, they were removed from the game.

The Starfield community is now discussing whether this was a justified decision or not. Although Bethesda has not given a reason for this change, many speculate about connections with the war in Ukraine.

Possible reasons for the removal of the Russian language

Last year, several video game companies such as Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, Ubisoft, and Rockstar suspended the sale of their products in Russia. Therefore, it is suspected that Bethesda also decided to remove the Russian language option for political reasons. However, there are also voices that suggest a financial background: if the game is not sold in Russia, why invest resources in Russian language support?

However, some fans consider this decision unfair. They argue that there are also people outside of Russia who would have benefited from the Russian language option - for example, players in Ukraine.

What will happen until the release of Starfield?

Until the release of Starfield on September 6, 2023, a lot can still change. It remains to be seen whether the game will be released with Russian language support or even be available in Russia at all. The discussion among fans shows, however, that the removal of the Russian language is controversial and there are many different opinions about it.

Regardless of the outcome of this debate, Starfield remains a highly anticipated role-playing game from Bethesda that will surely delight many players worldwide. Let's hope that such decisions will not have too much of an impact on the game's fun and accessibility.
