Valve announced three years ago that Steam would get ChromeOS support. Now it's time and Steam is available to Chromebook users in a beta test.
In a post, Zach Alcorn (product manager at Google) announced this. From ChromeOS 108.0.5359.24 Steam is available as a beta. The alpha phase has been running since March 2022.
ChromeOS Steam Hardware Requirements
The alpha version of Steam on ChromeOS still required an Intel Core i5 11th gen with an Intel Iris Xe graphics. The new beta now also supports Intels newer CPUs of the 12th generation and you only need an Intel Core i3. Support for AMD is also included in the beta.
The requirements for the memory were reduced from 16 GB to 8 GB of RAM.
In general, Alcorn still recommends using an i5 or Ryzen 5 with 16 GB of RAM.
