The Steam Deck OLED - Valve's Colorful and Rare "Experiment"

The new Steam Deck OLED

Valve introduces its new Steam Deck OLED, an enhanced handheld gaming PC with improved battery life, connectivity, and a vibrant rare edition. The Steam Deck gets bigger and better with the release of a new OLED model, offering enhanced battery life and more. The new OLED model provides a colorful rare answer to the question of how the Steam Deck can be even better.

With the Steam Deck OLED, we have all the capabilities of the previous model and more, as it offers improved battery life, a larger high dynamic range screen, updated thermals, WiFi 6E, and more. The stunning new handheld PC is also available alongside a limited transparent model, which Valve describes as "an experiment for our team."

Limited Edition and Availability

Featuring a fresh transparent exterior and vibrant orange accents, the limited edition of the OLED offers a more colorful and rare way to enjoy PC gaming. The company states that it was only able to produce "a small quantity" of the limited edition and hopes for high demand and a "successful experiment" that will lead to "more color variations in the future."

If you're concerned about the need for new accessories for the OLED, the team reassures that there is "no difference in accessory compatibility between Steam Deck and Steam Deck OLED."

Release Date and Purchase Restrictions

The release date for the Steam Deck OLED is Thursday, November 16. However, the limited edition can only be purchased in Canada or the USA. Those of us residing elsewhere will have to wait a bit longer as Valve points out that the rarer new console is not yet available in other regions.

Reservation List for Sold-Out Models

At launch, an account can purchase a Steam Deck OLED. Valve will lift this restriction once it is confident it can "meet demand." If you're as unlucky as I usually am, you might find that the OLED is sold out before you can get your hands on it. However, don't worry: Valve says it will switch to a reservation list when the company runs out of stock.

The Steam Deck OLED in Action

I find that the Steam Deck is the best way to enjoy PC games on the go or even in more comfortable places around the house. Snuggle up in bed with the console, and you'll understand. With a 30-50% improved battery life and more efficient cooling, the OLED sounds perfect for cozy days at home as well as travel-intensive adventures away from the house.
