The End of an Era
For weeks, it was a familiar sight: the Steam Deck, Valve's portable gaming PC, firmly anchored in the top 10 of the Steam bestseller list. But now, after an impressive 83 weeks in the elite, the handheld suffered a setback and found itself in 15th place. A surprising decline? Yes and no.
A Strong Competitor Shows Weakness
Since its introduction, the Steam Deck has been a perennial favorite on Steam. Not only has it consistently held its own in the top ranks, it has even regularly made it onto the list of the most popular PC games of the month. However, the handheld's star seems to be slowly fading now.
But why?
The Steam Deck, one of the first available PC gaming handhelds, has been consistently generating excitement since its introduction. However, despite its continued success, its position in Steam's global bestseller list has been wavering. Since September 26th, it has dropped out of the top 10 and has been falling further.
The reasons behind it
One reason could be that the Steam Deck is a pricey piece of hardware compared to most games on Steam. The increasing competition from other gaming handhelds like the ASUS ROG Ally or the Lenovo Legion Go may have also played a role. However, in the UK and the US, the Steam Deck continues to enjoy great popularity and remains among the top-selling items there.
Looking ahead
Despite its descent in the global rankings, there is no reason for Steam Deck fans to worry. With constant updates and improvements, the device remains exciting and continues to provide an excellent way to enjoy the Steam library on the go.
