New feature in the Steamshop - The Steam Interactive Recommender for video games

Since March 18th, 2020, all users of the Steam video game platform have had access to a new feature that allows you to see improved game recommendations. This is the Steam Interactive Recommender for video games (in German: Interaktiver Empfehlungsgeber). This new function not only collects data about your played games and makes recommendations based on that. Rather, the games played and the behavior of all users are now being examined. To do this, the Interactive Recommender uses an adapted technique of machine learning.

Better game recommendations through machine learning

In machine learning, an artificial intelligence collects experience data by applying specialized algorithms to recognize long-term patterns. The machine learning of the Interactive Recommender therefore takes two factors into account: your own game behavior and which games are popular with players with similar game behavior. So, on Steam, it's not just the games you've bought that are being considered.

You can further tailor these recommendations to better suit you with additional filtering options. For example, you can specify certain parameters so that only games that were released within a certain time frame are displayed. In addition, you can use tags to exclude certain genres and titles. If, for example, you're not a fan of anime games, you can exclude them with the corresponding tag. Then they will no longer be displayed to you. So you can further restrict the selection yourself.

Finding games you really like with the Interactive Recommender

The Valve Corporation has been developing new features for the Steam main page for some time now. These were first tested in the Steam Laboratories. That's what Valve calls its own department for developing new features. This includes new search functions, the integration of videos, and machine learning. The Interactive Recommender is the first of these functions that is now available to all Steam users. You can activate the Interactive Recommender through the settings on your personal Steam shop page. It will then be integrated into the entire interface.

This is supposed to give you a much more diverse range of game recommendations that are better tailored to your gaming preferences. If you try out the Interactive Recommender and come across interesting games that you might otherwise have overlooked, you can then find the best deal for any desired game key in our Keyfuchs comparison portal.
