The Universe is Being Reorganized
The Stellaris Pyxis Update is coming with Patch 3.10, along with the Astral Planes DLC, and it simplifies leaders and other related systems. Following the changes made in the 3.8 Gemini Update, the new Stellaris Pyxis Update consolidates leaders and streamlines the options to better integrate their functionality.
The Stellaris 3.10 Update will be released alongside the next major DLC, with the release date for Stellaris Astral Planes set for Thursday, November 16th. Whether you choose to invest in the new "reality-breaking" expansion or not, the Pyxis Update brings some very welcome changes and overhauls the way leaders function in one of the best grand strategy games on Steam.
The New Roles of Leaders
With the introduction of the Stellaris Gemini update in Patch 3.8, leaders have become more important for the functioning of your empire, and developer Paradox has worked hard to redesign the various leader roles to better fit the new setup. The result is that the overarching leader classes have been reduced from five to just three, with several related systems and mechanics also being adjusted.
Farewell Admirals and Generals
Admirals and Generals are gone; now the Commander takes their place as the sole military-focused leader. The former pair now serves as veteran classes for the Commander, along with the Commissioner and Strategist. Governors and Envoys have been merged to give us the new administrative leader of Stellaris, the Official. Scientists, on the other hand, remain as the third pillar.
Leader Limits and New Specializations
The leader limits of your empire now apply on a per-class basis, and if you have too many of one type, penalties will only be applied to that specific area. Along with this redesign, Paradox says it has rebalanced or replaced hundreds of leader traits.
With the disappearance of Governors, all leader classes now have the ability to govern planets and sectors, each specializing in a different area. Officials are ideal for managing resource extraction and industry. Commanders are ideal for managing recently conquered worlds or those with high levels of unrest and crime. Scientists can lead your research worlds.
