The Test Drive series has a long tradition dating back to 1987. A new installment of the virtual racing epic, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, is scheduled for September 2022. The sequel will again feature the open world typical of the Unlimited series: in Hong Kong.

In 2006, the developers opened a new chapter in the popular virtual racing series with Test Drive Unlimited. Unlimited, in contrast to many previous episodes, featured a dynamic open world. This principle is also followed by the third part of the Unlimited series: Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown.
In 2022, French publisher Nacon (WRC 10, AO Tennis 2) will present a return to the Unlimited cosmos in cooperation with the developer studio Kylotonn or KT Racing. This will be more than ten years after Test Drive Unlimited 2 (2011). Nacon and Kyloton are taking over from developers Eden Games and publisher Atari, who were responsible for the predecessors.
One thing is clear: Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown will take place in Hong Kong. The metropolis is supposed to appear in the open-world game on a 1:1 scale. This is atypical for the series, which up to this point has not focused primarily on left-hand traffic. A first teaser gave a glimpse of the game world of Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown in April 2021. In addition to fast luxury cars from well-known brands, the teaser points to gambling as a central narrative element. The open world will give the player a certain degree of freedom of movement.
At the same time, according to developers, Solar Crown will also incorporate elements of an MMO – and thus integrate online gameplay into the gaming experience. If you own the new Test Drive Unlimited, you can compete against online opponents in races. Right from the start, the player has to choose one of two factions within the world of Hong Kong, known as Streets and Sharps. This fact makes it clear that street races and side missions will again play a central role in the gameplay of Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown.
Kylotonn – The developers of the new Test Drive Unlimited
Since its foundation in 2006, developer Kylotonn has made a name for itself in the genre of racing games. The studio from Paris became known in particular for the World Rally Championship (WRC) series, which it took over creatively from the fifth installment in 2015.
In addition, Kylotonn also worked on FlatOut 4: Total Insanity (2017) and V-Rally 4 (2018). Now the experienced studio is taking over the creative responsibility for Test Drive Unlimited together with publisher Nacon. The new installment is scheduled to be released in 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
