From ultra-high-resolution gaming monitors to affordable 4K options, here you will find a detailed review that will help you choose the perfect monitor for your requirements.

Samsung 49-inch Odyssey G9

The Ultimate Flagship

Vorteile
  • Accuracy of colors straight from the factory
  • Strong curvature for maximum immersion
Nachteile
  • No image stabilization
  • No built-in speakers

Best Ultrawide Gaming Monitor

  • Size & Aspect Ratio: 49 inches / 32:9
  • Resolution: 5120 x 1440
  • Panel Type: SVA (VA)
  • Refresh Rate: 240 Hz
  • Response Time (GTG): 1ms
  • Adaptive Sync: G-Sync compatible, FreeSync

The Samsung 49-inch Odyssey G9 is an extreme example among the monitors on this page. It measures an impressive 49 inches diagonally and features a 1000R curvature, the most dramatic curvature offered in gaming monitors today. From a distance of 60 to 90 cm, this screen fills your entire field of view, providing the experience of having two 27-inch, 1440p monitors in one. For setup, we recommend a desk that is at least 160 cm wide and 60 cm deep, but if you have this space, you'll enjoy an immersive gaming environment without any image distortion. If you're looking for a smaller ultrawide, the Acer Predator X38 is also an excellent choice.

Tests of the 49-inch Odyssey G9 revealed excellent contrast (2,153:1 after calibration), which increased to 58,880:1 in HDR tests. It is a bright monitor with a sharp image and accurate DCI-P3 and sRGB color reproduction.

However, considering the price, we would expect a bit more. For example, the monitor does not offer motion blur reduction. However, we usually prefer adaptive sync over motion blur reduction, and motion blur should not be a problem if you have a powerful graphics card. Surprisingly, it also lacks speakers or a frame rate counter. But with solid image quality and high speed for an ultrawide, some compromises are acceptable.

Dell S3222DGM

Best Standard Gaming Monitor

Vorteile
  • Sharp image with vibrant and accurate colors
  • Excellent contrast and solid video processing
  • Excellent build quality
Nachteile
  • No HDR
  • Size & Aspect Ratio: 32 inches, 16:9
  • Resolution: 2560 x 1440 @ 165 Hz
  • Panel Type: VA
  • Refresh Rate: 165 Hz
  • Response Time (GTG): 4ms
  • Adaptive Sync: FreeSync Premium Pro

The Dell S3222DGM is the best gaming monitor for many gamers. This successor to the highly-rated S3220DGF features a 32-inch VA panel, QHD resolution, and a 165 Hz refresh rate with support for Adaptive Sync. Other advantages include 85% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space and a display curvature with a radius of 1800mm.

However, Dell truly impresses with the S3222DGM's contrast ratio. VA panels are known for their excellent contrast, but the S3222DGM surpasses even IPS competitors with an impressive ratio of 3,000:1. Our tests even showed an improvement of one-third over this specification, resulting in a ratio of 4,000:1.

This 32-inch monitor offers plenty of vertical screen space without the need for scrolling and a 1440p resolution, the current sweet spot between image quality and gaming performance. Although the S3222DGM primarily targets gamers, we found that it is also great for general productivity and everything in between.

While the S3222DGM lacks HDR support, its excellent contrast does not diminish this missing feature, and its overall performance is hard to beat at this price point. Add to that Dell's typically solid build quality, and you have a great monitor for enthusiasts looking to build a mid- to high-end gaming PC.

Alienware AW3423DWF

Best Ultrawide Gaming Monitor

Vorteile
  • Impressive SDR and HDR images
  • Deep contrast and color saturation
  • Wide color gamut
  • Super smooth motion processing
  • No calibration required
  • Premium design and build quality
Nachteile
  • No significant flaws
  • Size & Aspect Ratio: 34 inches / 21:9
  • Resolution: 3440 x 1440
  • Panel Type: QD-OLED
  • Refresh Rate: 165 Hz
  • Response Time (GTG): 0.5ms
  • Adaptive Sync: FreeSync & G-Sync compatible

Desktop OLEDs used to be a rarity in the gaming monitor segment, but over the years, prices have dropped and more models have entered the market. The latest model comes from Alienware, and it's the stunning AW3423DFW.

This is a 34-inch ultrawide monitor with a 1800R curvature and a resolution of 3440 x 1440. However, the most important specification is its Quantum Dot OLED (QD-OLED) panel, which offers an extremely wide color gamut and the deepest blacks you can find in a gaming monitor.

The QD-OLED heart of the AW3423DFW provides unmatched contrast and excellent color saturation, and we saw no need to calibrate the panel further out of the box. Add to that a high-quality build quality - as we expect from Alienware - and top-notch video processing, and the AW3423DFW hits all the high notes without any significant flaws for avid gamers.

If you can overlook the starting price of $1,100, the AW3423DFW would be a perfect companion for Nvidia's latest graphics cards, such as the GeForce RTX 4090 and RTX 4080.

Samsung Odyssey Neo G8

Best Curved Gaming Monitor

Vorteile
  • Impressive SDR and HDR images
  • Factory-calibrated color accuracy
  • Top-notch gaming performance
  • Smooth motion processing and low input lag
Nachteile
  • Color space volume only average
  • Size & Aspect Ratio: 32 inches / 16:9
  • Resolution: 3840 x 2160
  • Panel Type: VA
  • Refresh Rate: 240 Hz
  • Response Time (GTG): 1ms
  • Adaptive Sync: G-Sync compatible, FreeSync

The Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 is a true all-rounder. It features a 32-inch VA panel that combines mini-LED backlighting (1,196 dimming zones) and a quantum dot film to deliver greater contrast than conventional VA monitors (25,000:1 compared to the usual 3,000:1).

Samsung has also equipped the Odyssey Neo G8 with a tight 1000R curvature and a fast 240 Hz refresh rate, which is rare for this 4K resolution. Whether it's SDR or HDR content, the Odyssey Neo G8 impresses with accurate color reproduction, and overall gaming performance is excellent.

Although we would have liked to see a bit more color volume from the Odyssey Neo G8, it offers a lot of performance for its price at an MSRP of $1,499. However, the monitor is often on sale, bringing its price down to under $1,200.

LG 32UN550-W

Best Budget Monitor for 4K Gaming

Vorteile
  • Reasonable construction quality
  • Good contrast
Nachteile
  • No portrait mode or adjustable height
  • Missing HDR
  • Size & Aspect Ratio: 31.5 inches / 16:9
  • Panel Type: VA
  • Connectivity: 2x HDMI 2.0, 1x DisplayPort 1.4, 1x 3.5mm
  • Refresh Rate: 60 Hz
  • Adaptive Sync: AMD FreeSync

The LG 32UN550-W is a great choice for budget-conscious buyers looking for a 32-inch 4K monitor. The 32UN550-W's VA panel did not disappoint in our benchmarks, with a contrast ratio of 2,353.9:1 straight out of the box. The 32UN550-W's native color space is DCI-P3, and it covers this color space accurately without any visible flaws.

As a budget 4K monitor, the 32UN550-W doesn't win any HDR awards. The colors lack the expected brilliance, and overall, the image doesn't offer any remarkable advantage over SDR.

But the 32UN550-W also includes two 5W speakers and even AMD FreeSync to combat screen tearing during casual gaming. Overall, it delivered vibrant colors with deep blacks, making it great for enjoying your favorite 4K movies and more.

Samsung U32R590CWP

Best Budget 4K Computer Monitor

Vorteile
  • High-quality construction
  • Effective curvature
Nachteile
  • No USB ports
  • Requires calibration
  • Size / Aspect Ratio: 32 inches / 16:9
  • Resolution: 3840 x 2160
  • Refresh Rate: 60Hz
  • Panel Type: VA
  • Adaptive Sync: None

The Samsung UR59C is the best choice for an affordable screen with plenty of pixels. The VA panel delivers contrast (2590.5:1 after calibration), making everything from photos to videos to games look better. While it may not be a high-end gaming monitor with a 60Hz refresh rate, 4ms (GTG) response time, and no FreeSync or G-Sync, casual gamers can get by thanks to the combination of high pixel density and high contrast that make games look realistic.

Curves are generally more effective on ultrawide screens, but the UR59C's 1500R curve was effective and beneficial for this 32-inch screen, such as when multitasking with multiple windows. And if you don't mind calibrating, you can eliminate the annoying color inaccuracies of the UR59C that unfortunately were visible out of the box. Our calibration settings reduced the error from 4.3dE to 0.9dE.

Conclusion

Choosing the right monitor heavily depends on your personal preferences, budget, and use case. The models presented here offer a wide range of options, ranging from ultra-high-resolution gaming monitors to budget-friendly 4K screens. Each of these monitors has its own strengths and weaknesses, so you're sure to find the perfect monitor for your needs.
