The Callisto Protocol - Pulled from Japanese release to avoid censorship

The Callisto Protocol will not be released in Japan. This was decided by the developer after the game did not receive a rating in Japan.

The studio has announced via its Japanese Twitter account that development of a localized version has been discontinued and all pre-orders will be refunded.

"We have found that the game cannot pass the CERO rating in its current state and that changing the content does not provide the gaming experience that players expect. We would appreciate your understanding in Japan".

CERO is getting stricter

In general, the CERO rating is relatively strict in Japan compared to other countries. This could also be seen in the Japanese versions of Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty. In recent years, CERO requirements have become even more stringent.
The Callisto Protocol will be released on December 02, 2022 and already looks promising. The game will be released on Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
