The Finals - New shooter from the Battlefield developers

The Finals is a new shooter from former Battlefield developers

Mbark Studios has revealed its first game, "The Finals", with a pre-alpha trailer. The trailer shows fast-paced gameplay with completely destructible environments. And when we say completely destructible, we mean it.

Not only do you see individual walls collapse after being hit, but whole floors are turned into rubble piles, right up to entire buildings.

In The Finals you play in a squad with three other players. The game, inspired by Squid Game and The Running Man, throws you into a gaming arena where it's a matter of life and death. The defeated opponents explode into hundreds of coins.

According to the studio's creative director, Gustav Tilleby, The Finals is a hero builder, not a hero shooter. At the same time, he said that the development team is creating a game that offers meaningful options for interacting with and changing the world.

Glue guns for everyone

Also visible in the trailer is a type of weapon that works like a glue gun. With this you can quickly build cover or platforms. But it doesn't look like, for example, in Fortnite, but completely new and different.

A standard match consists of four three-person teams competing against each other. The cards are based on iconic locations from the real world. For example, there is the Hotel Monaco from Monte Carlo as a map. Both the time of day and the weather are dynamic and variable. So boredom doesn't set in so quickly.

Server-side Calculations

Tilleby also revealed something about the technology that makes completely destructible buildings possible. The destruction is calculated on the server of the game and not on the graphics card. Only in this way is it possible in this level of detail and scope.

The Embark Studios have so far been more noticeable through the game ARC Raders. But after the game was recently postponed to 2023, Embark Studios said they are making much faster progress with The Finals than they could have imagined.
