In a recent post on Twitter, the EA team showcased a video featuring a Sim suffering from the effects of mold. The green spores protruding from the Sim's skin and the spreading mushrooms have caused concern among some players.
In response to the worried comments, however, the studio reassured players, stating, "Don't worry, mold is an optional challenge that can be attributed to any residential lot in any inhabited world." This means that you can decide whether or not you want to take on this challenge.
