The story follows a high school student who returns to his hometown a decade after the fatal car accident that claimed his parents' lives. There, he discovers the ability to summon a Persona - the physical manifestation of his inner psyche. Together with the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad (S.E.E.S.), a group of like-minded individuals with Persona abilities, he is tasked with defeating the Shadows and unraveling the mystery of the "Dark Hour."

Fans of the series had long desired a remake of Persona 3, and this wish was officially confirmed by Atlus. Development of Reload began in 2019, and in April 2023, the production was first reported before the game was officially announced in June 2023. The remake stays true to the original story of Persona 3 but has been updated graphically and functionally to bring it in line with the later installments in the series. The revised character designs are done by Azusa Shimada under the supervision of Shigenori Soejima, while Atsushi Kitajoh arranged and composed the music, supported by the voices of Azumi Takahashi and Lotus Juice.

At the same time, they must defeat the former elite SOLDIER Sephiroth, who seeks to merge with the planet to gain more power.

The development of the game began in November 2019 prior to the release of the Remake and was announced in June 2022. The core team returned in the same positions, with Tetsuya Nomura as creative director and Naoki Hamaguchi as director, albeit with changed roles compared to the previous game.
