"Total War Pharaoh" is a new strategy game being developed by Creative Assembly and Sega. It aims to introduce more realism and brutality into the long-standing strategy game, with a focus on the intricacies of battle and the split-second decisions that can turn the tide.
New Challenges and Mechanics
With the release date of "Total War Pharaoh" on the horizon and plenty of details about new leaders and factions, there is new information about how terrain and weather can either support or hinder your battle plans. It's all about carefully selecting your chariots. It's all about the weight.
The Role of Factions
We already know about the factions and leaders in "Total War Pharaoh," where Egyptians, Hittites, and Canaanites clash on various different battlefields and environments. In our own preview of "Total War Pharaoh," we saw how the new dynamic weather system can influence the course of a battle.
Weight Makes the Difference
You see, many of the battles in "Total War Pharaoh" take place in deserts and sand. In the past, it may have made sense to recruit the heaviest armored troops and chariots; the most robust units with the best defense.
However, in Pharaoh, this will likely lead to death. Even in clear weather, heavy units will actually sink partially in the sand, reducing their speed and efficiency. Similarly, bulky chariots will be half-submerged, slowing their advance and making them vulnerable to attacks.
Balancing and Adapting is the Key
The solution seems to be prioritizing lighter armored soldiers and vehicles, but of course, this comes with the disadvantage of them being weaker and less protected. However, the new user interface of "Total War Pharaoh" could help. 'Royal Decrees,' which offer various advantages over multiple rounds, are available through a simple, accessible skill tree.
When choosing a faction, you can also select from a variety of legacies that will define how your faction will function over time. So, the terrain is harsh, the battles are more complex, but you have a greater range of options to cope with the new challenges.
