Ultima Online celebrates summer
Imagine sitting on a warm summer evening with your friends, grilling, playing games, and enjoying a cold beer - not in your backyard, but in the virtual world of Ultima Online. That's exactly what happened in early July on the official servers of this classic Massively Multiplayer Online Game. A virtual summer solstice barbecue with games, prizes, and of course, "a nice cold root beer".
Games and surprises at the barbecue
The event offered a range of games and challenges for participants. Particularly noteworthy was the Dunk Tank Challenge, where players had the chance to dunk an event moderator of their choice. The event streams included some surprises. The high number of participants resulted in the event being divided into two time slots - morning and evening - to ensure that everyone had a chance to participate in the festivities.
The rewards ranged from barbecue food and drinks to commemorative tokens and random loot. In short, this event really had everything covered!
A vibrant community
But it's not just the barbecue that makes Ultima Online such a special experience. The game still boasts an active official and unofficial event community. For example, on the Siege Perilous server, there was a choreographed rock concert featuring MIDI lute riffs from community favorite Lord Galois.
And things are just as exciting on the InsaneUO server: players reported sightings of the infamous monarch Lord British. He would randomly attack players and then let people rummage through his inventory.
Conclusion: Ultima Online is alive and kicking!
Even if, like me, you may be too young to have ever gotten into Ultima Online, it's amazing to see one of the oldest MMO communities in PC gaming still going strong - with or without official support.
Here, gamers come together not only to play games, but also to celebrate events like the Summer Solstice Barbecue. And who knows, maybe you'll be there next time?
In that spirit, cheers to another successful barbecue - and many more to come!
