New Difficulty Options and Hardcore Mode in Valheim
Finally, there's news about the upcoming difficulty options in Valheim! Developer Jonathan Smårs from Iron Gate gives us an exciting glimpse into the various settings, including detailed sliders and switches to make the gaming experience even more individualized.
Iron Gate has already hinted at vehicle mechanics and is now also sharing details about the new difficulty options that we can expect in Valheim.
Are you ready for the hardcore mode or do you prefer something more relaxed?
Smårs asks us if we are ready for the hardcore mode in Valheim or if we prefer something more relaxed. He then shows video footage of the upcoming difficulty options and hardcore mode menus. However, please note that the actual settings are not final and may change before the final implementation.
The developer recommends playing the first Valheim playthrough without these settings as they can affect the gameplay experience if used incorrectly. There are many world modifiers, from easy, casual, hard, hardcore, to hammer mode and immersive difficulty levels. The hammer mode allows for free building of all structures without attacks on the base or monster attacks - similar to creative mode in Minecraft.
More specific sliders for aspects such as combat and resources
In addition to the general difficulty settings, there will also be more specific sliders for aspects such as combat, resource and raid rates, and death penalties. Each chosen difficulty level has these sliders and options that are pre-set by Iron Gate and can be adjusted by players as desired.
When can we expect the difficulty settings in Valheim?
The new settings are expected to be included in the Valheim Hildir's Quest update, which is expected to be released sometime in the future before the big Ashlands update. However, neither Hildur nor Ashlands have a release date after the Valheim Mistlands update.
Iron Gate previously commented on the difficulty options: "We're testing a hard and a light mode, but also a casual mode where you don't lose equipment on death. The normal mode will always be the best-balanced version of the game, but we hope that more game variants will offer a challenge for experienced players and open up the game for players who prefer a calm and relaxed approach."
However, please note that the settings shown may not exactly match those in the final release of the Valheim Hildir update.
