War Thunder - Introducing the F-14B Tomcat

The new F-14B Tomcat in War Thunder

Attention War Thunder players! A new top-class US Marine jet fighter has entered the battlefield: the F-14B Tomcat. With more powerful engines and new weapons, this Rank VIII fighter shows what it's made of. In this article, we take a closer look at the features and innovations of this fascinating aircraft.

What does the F-14B Tomcat offer?

The upgraded version of the well-known Tomcat brings a lot of exciting features with it. Among other things, the fighter benefits from:

  • improved thrust and climb rate
  • excellent AIM-54 Phoenix missiles
  • guided bombs
  • TISEO (Target Identification System, Electro-Optical)

Thanks to the new, more powerful engines, the F-14B achieves an impressive climb rate of about 225 m/s, while maintaining roughly the same speed and fuel consumption as the F-14A version. The TISEO optical target acquisition system allows the target detected by the radar to be viewed on the cockpit monitor - an interesting option for fans of simulation battles. But the main news for American pilots is undoubtedly the improved armament of the F-14B!

The new armament of the F-14B Tomcat

For air combat, the new version of the Tomcat is equipped with more advanced AIM-9L air-to-air missiles (up to four), a later version of the Sparrow missile AIM-7M (up to six), as well as two modifications of the great Phoenix long-range missiles: the AIM-54A and the new AIM-54C. These missiles have an improved inertial navigation system that increases accuracy at medium and long ranges. With up to six Phoenix missiles at once, you can bring considerable firepower to the battle.

The F-14B as a ground attack aircraft

But the F-14B can do even more: with a LANTIRN targeting pod, the Tomcat becomes a true reaper of ground vehicles. Guided bombs of the Paveway II family, such as the GBU-12, GBU-16, and heavy GBU-10, are precise and deadly weapons for destroying any tank on the battlefield. In addition to guided bombs, the aircraft can also be equipped with the tried and true Zuni rockets, as well as conventional free-fall bombs up to 2,000 pounds in caliber.

Other extras of the F-14B Tomcat

A nice addition is the ability to use the already known Bol countermeasure pods with 160 charges each. Use the weapon configurator of War Thunder to set up your perfect set for each game mode!
