In Ubisoft's Watch Dogs Legion, players are already allowed to hack their way through an action-packed open world for the third time. After Chicago and San Francisco, the third installment of the action adventure series takes place in virtual London.
As with the two predecessors, the game world can be explored and manipulated freely. The novelty this time is that the player does not slip into the role of a predefined, fixed protagonist, but builds up his own "Legion" of hacktivists during the course of the game, which can consist of a maximum of 20 members. Between these characters, any and all changes can be made at any time.
Hacking, Sneaking or Full Action?
With the first part of the series from the year 2014, the developers, Ubisoft Montreal, made it clear that Watch Dogs is not a GTA clone and that the focus is not on pure action, wild gunfights, pursuits and gang wars. Rather, hacking is brought into the focus as a central component. From traffic lights, smartphones, surveillance cameras to computers, in the world of Watch Dogs you can hack almost everything. This inevitably leads to tactical and thoughtful action. For example, if we have to eliminate a target in a nightclub, there are countless approaches. We could storm the nightclub armed to the teeth on a direct confrontation course, but would probably quickly perish in the hail of bullets from the security personnel. Cleverer is the approach to hack the target's smartphone, lure him to a remote location and, on the way, provoke a fatal accident by skillfully manipulating a traffic light system. There are almost always several optional ways to do any task.
Recruit your legion
As mentioned at the beginning, it is first important to assemble your own legion of hacktivists. Potentially, any of the nearly 9 million NPCs that populate virtual London can be recruited. Each character is individual, with their own daily routines, hobbies, interests, and abilities. It is therefore possible to adapt your own gameplay to the characters, or to choose those that fit your approach. Some of them, for example, are particularly good hackers, others may be ex-soldiers and therefore experts in the use of firearms. Others again are good melee fighters. However, always keep in mind that the virtual death of a character is permanent. With the gigantic number of missions, it is therefore important to have one or more specialists on the team for every situation.
Prediction
The new recruits with individual abilities, the endless possibilities of hacking, and the new London setting make Watch Dogs - Legion look very promising. In addition, Ubisoft promises an exciting multiplayer mode for cooperative missions with up to 4 players. The new installment of the series, like the second part, looks extremely detail-oriented and varied.
The exact release date of Watch Dogs Legion is not yet known. The planned release on March 6 has been postponed to the second quarter of the year. The action adventure will be released simultaneously for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Stadia.
